It has been an amazing 3rd and 4th quarter for Cleveland hip hop. First Twizz blessed us with Summer Stars, then 12bit and Corey Grand lay us out a line of Abstract Cocaina, only to have Holy and Urbindex both drop solo beat tapes the following day. And now, Pablo Amor hasdropped his solo beat tape Familiar Feelings
this past Tuesday on the Keyel bandcamp page. The collection features what most who know Pease would expect, a smooth combination of heavy drums and melodic samples. The Familiar Feelings are a reflection of the environment much of us live in everyday. I asked Pease about the title and this is what he said

when i make beats, i try to pull from the mood in the air, or the emotion im feeling at the time, as opposed to tying to make the best beat ever, so say if im in a room that feels serene, and theres incense burning and theres records everywhere, and im stoned/ that stuff all gives me a certain vibe, much like the vibe i get when im listening to say.. little dragon or madlib or whoever. so what i wanted to do was bring out those same feelings in other people

Whats not so familiar on the new album is an slight underlying influence of afro-cuban type jazz. This combination of new age hip hop and classical sounds is seamless, creating the vibe Pease has set out to achieve. Definitely highly lampable music. What a week, and it just keeps getting better! HOLY$$$ of Keyel and Urbindex dropped two of the hottest beat tapes of the year on the same day. First up, TV DInners. I wasnt sure what to expect since Ive only heard Urbindex on features in the past, but I quickly realized (possibly no sooner than 15 secs in) this dude has heat. Its almost like a Special Herbs tape, but with more creative voice samples. Then I find out hes only 17 and already making noise in the circuit. While youre downloading the tape check out his website, the man has good taste in music.

After having my wig split by Urbindex, I needed something to bring me back to Earth. BOMBS is a collection of HOLY$$$ latest work. Always infused with that early 90s head-nod sound, his drum breaks and soulful choir samples will have your head on bobble-mode. Also, points for the sweet berry wine and tony russo references. No one should miss out on these.

My mans Twizz of KEYEL dropped a solo album yesterday by the name of Summer Stars. Im a day late, but I had to be in order to listen to the whole album front to back properly through my fat ass speakers, in the comfort of my Cleveland headquarters. MANE! Twizz really comes with it. The production, the samples, the features, the smooth feel, hard drums, structured lyrics, mad concepts, interludes, pacing, bass…everything I could ask for from a solid hip hop album in the year 2010 and nothing I wouldnt.
