This is the first single off of the Debut EP from BROKEN KEYS, the Experimental/Alternative side project of Chemist from Smoke Screen. Composed with a Roland SP-404, an Electric Guitar and a Microphone, this project blends Glitch-Hop Drums, with Fuzzy Lo-Fi Guitars. It mashes Chill, Ambient Vocals and Harmonies into the mix all while touching on Electro, Pop and even Blues style Garage Riffs. I was sent this track a week ago by Brad of Field Day Recordings and I haven’t stopped listening to it since.

With the majority of independent music being released out of Cleveland being mostly Hardcore bands, Rap, and Bro-Step, FREEZE-TAG and his melodic/ambient  up-tempo tracks are a breath of fresh air in the local music scene.

Spaceman MD is an experimental duo from Cleveland, Ohio consisting of Connor Musarra aka Urbindex (brother of Frank Musarra aka Hearts Of Darknesses) and Greg Foley aka Slowpoke Jones. Musarra has been professionally producing, performing, and releasing music for years under the stage name Urbindex, including performances and collaborations with artists such as CX KiDTRONiK and Girl Talk. He is now attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. And Foley aka Slowpoke Jones, a senior at Hawken High School in Cleveland, the banjo/guitar powerhouse, brings a unique touch to this avant garde, yet accessible and exciting duo. Their new album, The Unbound World, brings an eclectic amalgam of styles to the table. They believe that when the lines are blurred between definitive genres, creative expression is in its purest form. August has become a very exciting month. So in honor of this increasing energy we’re breaking you off with some new tunes. Big ups to Pacheko for breaking us off with an exclusive mix. For those that aren’t familiar with this mans work, Pacheko is a Venezuelan DJ/Producer who blends bass-heavy music with tropical flavours like reggaeton and tuki (a local Venezuelan dance sound similar to Angolan kuduro or Brazilian baile). Co-founder of Abstractor (an audiovisual crew that joins forces of musicians and designers, originated in Caracas but now spread between venezuela, barcelona – spain, chile, melbourne, etc. His crew run a monthly night in Caracas were they showcase their new music, and the sounds that they are feeling, currently: Tropical Bass, Moombathon, Kuduro, and a venezuelan ghetto genre called Changa Tuki or Raptor House. They are currently collaborating with one of the pioneer producers from this venezuelan ghetto electronic scene, his name is Dj Yirvin, and there is a track included of his and a remix he did for pocz on the mix.
 
The mix is basically a combination of Changa Tuki, Kuduro, Bass-House, and Pacheko’s own productions.

This Thursday, TheCoventryKids.com will be hosting their third installment of #TACONIGHT at the B-Side. Color Amor hails from Mar del Plata, Argentina where he is involved in mixing,  production and promotion of bass music. With influences ranging from King Tubby and Eek a Mouse to KRS One, Manu Chao and Jedi Mind Tricks; Espinosa’s music incorporates the free flowing ambiance of island rhythm and original dub with the harsh and heavy yet smart bite of underground hip-hop. Further, Espinosa is involved with a newly labeled subgenre of bass music called CumbiaStep, which is derived from the percussive Cumbia sound popular in Latin American music with the big bass that drives dubstep.

After an amazing first weekend in Seattle, I’m ready to get back to the blog. I’ve begun to compost my Columbus swag and I feel after all the sun the past few days, Seattle is ready for a sprinkling. Soon my Seattle soil will be fresh and fertile and ready for a beautiful spring bloom.

Upon arriving at the Green Tortoise Hostel in downtown Seattle on Friday night, I was greeted by @Nigel_God in a flurry of freshness along with friend Miss Lee from Vancouver. Within an hour of landing, my world was flipped on its head as we hit Club Contour for the Shift Dubstep Sessions, a party claiming to be Seattle’s longest running Dubstep event. The night was eventful to say the least. While things heated up on the dance floor, I made my way around the party networking with those that seemed to know the drill. After meeting Dirty Steve of Shift crew along with  Brenna and J. Lee, owners Ground Zero Studios and private venue SPACE, I was blasted by the boisterous beats of San Francisco DJ/producer Sam Supa. Just in case I had any doubt that this pacific north west party pack goes hard, I was reassured as the bouncers cleared space for a highly talented fire spinner to take stage on a table, following which she quite literally harnessed the fires of hell  and burned it down!!

Simply put, the lineup for Saturday night was… promising. We retired the day with a stunning sunset viewed in style from the water tower at Volunteer park, following which we enjoyed a few delicious bowls of Pho. As party time approached, we readied ourselves for an epic night with Freq Nasty and Marty Party at Neumo’s. We arrived as the Freq hit the stage and found our space near the speaker as ordained by @Nigel_God. It could have been Freq Nasty’s panty droppin basslines or maybe Neumo’s should really be called Nympho’s, but I think the combination of intoxicating dub and the pleasure packed party environment equipped with loads of green fog brought out the FREQQQQ  in all of us  X)

Pause for some Freqiness…

Next up was the infamous producer of purple, Marty Party. Rockin his cap on low as usual, MartyParty passed the purple and everyone partook in the premium funk that is his SASQUATCH SOUND. That is to say, Marty Party is no man… He is a monster. Enough said.

After the show, @Nigel_God was no where to be found so Miss Lee and I caught a ride with newfound friends claiming Flying Beat Entertainment down to SODO where the party was just getting started at SPACE. Greeted at the door by owner Brenna herself, SPACE provided the most welcoming environment I have ever experienced upon entering a warehouse party. A few tables were set up with free food to feed all the late night party zombies ready to dance til dawn. I must say, I happily joined the feeding frenzy before hitting the dancefloor for a few more hours of newly energized naughtiness. Feeling quite satisfied, Miss Lee and myself joined forces with Adam of Bassdrop to catch a cab back to Capitol Hill to turn in for the evening.

To sum it all up, Seattle has more to offer than any dub fiend can could ever consume. My first weekend was truly epic. Thanks to all that had a hand in the excitement and stay tuned for more to come of my super swagged out Seattle stories.
