June has been very giving so far and we hope everyone has got a chance to experience the summer festivities. If you haven’t got a chance for whatever reason to enjoy the weather or the fun, be patient there are a lot of things to look forward to. June has a million of naughty things to enjoy. Try nude sun bathing, day drinking, skinny dipping, cliff diving, & surfing. That was just for starters, June 16th we are hosting a crazy dance party at the b-side liquor lounge (FREE MARGARITAS!), we’ll be featuring another Creme De La Creme party at the end of this month, and hella other music festivals. While you party out the rest of this month keep in mind the events coming up in July.

Electric Forest June 30 – July 3 Rothbury, Michigan

This festival is the epic revival of Rothbury! With over three stages of fantastic musical acts and the illuminated Sherwood Forest. The experience you will gain is enough incentive for any person to go. You will probably be able to find any drug you want, end up tripping balls in the Sherwood Forest, rock out to The String Cheese Incident, and doing nitros with a group of friendly hippies. If you do end up going, be sure to pack yourself whatever you need to survive in the woods for a few days.

Camp Bisco July 7 – 9 Mariaville, New York

Camp Bisco is an outdoor music festival held at the beautiful Indian Lookout Country Club, a world-class property located near Albany, NY. Camp Bisco is a 3 day rain-or-shine event with camping. So, if the Electric Forest wasn’t wild enough here is another 3 days of electronic swag. This time around you’ll end up wondering around the festival drunk, rolling you balls off, and rocking out to The Disco Biscuits. I think this festivals has the most promising line ups of the summer. Typically these out door festivals are jammed pack of jam band listening hippies, instead the line up is full of heavy bass and electro dance music. Make sure you pack your dancing shoes and your tent.

All Good Music Festival July 14 – 17 Masontown, West Virginia

Walther Productions is thrilled to present  All Good Music Festival, “Celebrating 15 Years and The Music That Brought Us All Here“. Once again, the festival will take place in Wild and Wonderful Masontown, West Virginia on the rolling green fields of Marvin’s Mountaintop and will feature over 40 bands with No Overlapping Sets allowing fans to see every set and every band on the line-up.

Pitchfork Music Festival July 15 – 17 Union Park, Chicago, Illinois

The Pitchfork Music Festival is a three-day event showcasing over 40 of independent music’s best bands and artists on three stages. With so many blockbuster festivals gouging their attendees out of absolutely obscene sums of money, only to confine them in uncomfortable, tight spaces and skimp on basic necessities, our goal is to do the right thing: That is, to create a reasonably priced summer music festival that provides an overwhelmingly positive, comfortable and fun festival experience for both attendees and musicians.

I’ll Be Your Mirror – Curated by Portishead July 23 – 24 Alexandra Palace, England, UK

On the weekend of 23rd and 24th July 2011 at the stunning Alexandra Palace, London, All Tomorrow’s Parties will present the first UK I’ll Be Your Mirror event, which will be curated by the mercurial Portishead (who headline both nights) and ATP. Acting as sister events to the world famous ATP Festivals which usually take place in holiday resorts, and named after the b-side to The Velvet Underground’s original All Tomorrow’s Parties 7″ single, I’ll Be Your Mirror will be a new series of artist curated music, film and art events taking place in cities worldwide.

This festival looks very promising. Movement (Detroit Electronic Music Festival) has become the ultimate stage for the city that founded techno music to showcase its electronic music muscle. Starting at Noon on Saturday, May 28th Techno heads, House heads and electronic dance music enthusiasts from across the globe will pour through the turnstiles at Detroit’s Hart Plaza for the start of Movement 2011. And for the next three days and nights they will have a chance to experience the ultimate outdoor electronic music venue. 36 hours of music; 4 stages and more than 70 electronic music artists and DJs. Last year’s attendance nearly reached 90,000 over the three days of the festival.

So Cleveland prepare for Halloween as 12th Planet, Gaslamp Killer, and Daedelus, come to throw the grimiest party of the weekend.  Seeing as I currently live in Seattle, I was able to go check out their tour last week at Neumos in Capitol Hill, Seattle.  12th Planet really set the tone for the night with his heavy drops and dirty hip-hop influenced dubstep tracks.  Following 12th Planet, was Daedelus, who was brought just as much energy to the stage and set up the perfect entrance for The Gaslamp Killer to take the show and shut the night down. Be prepared for the costumes to be out and for your mind to get rocked by bass.

DAMN, damn, damn damn! This video has a cameo from every relevant musician of the past three years. I should have known when every dj/producer/artist I follow tweeted about this thing in the last hour. Hands down my favorite video Ive seen so far this year, and not to mention a good tune.

The “Amen break” (usually pronounced /ɑːˈmɛn/^{[citation needed]}) was a brief drum solo performed in 1969 by Gregory Sylvester “G. C.” Coleman in The Winstons”s song “Amen, Brother”.

The “Amen Break”, “Amen”, or imitations thereof, are frequently used as sampled drum loops in hip hop, jungle, breakcore and drum and bass music. It is 5.20 seconds long and consists of four bars of the drum-solo sampled from the song “Amen, Brother” as performed by the 1960s funk and souloutfit The Winstons. The song is an up-tempo instrumental rendition of an older gospel music classic. The Winstons” version was released as a B-side of the 45 RPM 7-inch vinyl single “Color Him Father” in 1969 on Metromedia (MMS-117), and is currently available on several compilations and on a 12-inch vinyl re-release together with other songs by The Winstons.

The Amen Break was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music – “a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures”

By 1990, at the height of British rave culture, the Amen began to appear in an increasing number of so called breakbeat hardcore productions. Hardcore emphasized a unique, harsh, aggressive sound that drew strongly from hip-hop and early acid house. It added a hip-hop influence with the addition of breakbeats and increased the tempo. A strong reggae and raggainfluence emerged in 1991/92, with uplifting piano melody loops or Jamaican reggae samples used at normal speed layered on top of frenetic 150 to 170 BPM breakbeats. This sound quickly evolved to a point where sliced and diced drum breaks (featuring whacky time stretched snare rolls), in conjunction with low frequency bass lines (sub bass), became the important features of many tracks; a style that was initially referred to as Jungle but then later, as the style progressed, and the rhythmic elements were refined, the term drum and bass was used to sum up the sound (which is quite literally what it was). Around the mid 1990s a number of so called IDM producers, who had been influenced by the Jungle/DnB sound, began to focus on the style and started exploring it in the context of electronica (making “danceable” club oriented tracks was not a prerequisite, in fact the more outlandish and obscure the manipulations, the more aesthetically pleasing the records were to aficionados—a trend that continues to this day in the form of breakcore). The amen break can still be found in many productions and there has in recent years been a renewed interest in the “old-skool” Jungle style. Luke Vibert, one of the many IDM producers who has explored this break (other examples include Squarepusher), has released several records under the moniker Amen Andrews, using the Amen on nearly every track, heavily sliced and edited (yet recognizable).

Listening to this music makes me feel like I shotguned a four loko, ate johnny flavs excstacy and based jumped off a bridge all at once. Enjoy!
