On a lighter note today, I was watching Paul Scheer tell Jack McBrayer a shitty knock knock joke when I saw something about a Heads Will Roll 2.0 remix. As a fan I was extremely excited but as a taste-maker music journalist, I was confused by this. Heads Will Roll (1.0) was the jumping off point, boosting them to national exposure and setting the stage for everything to come. Its the type of thing most artists work to get away from, and here they are embracing, and even embellishing it. I called Zucco to ask for some insight (I am loosely quoting him)
People wanna hear it. It was the reason we got out to LA in the first place, and the crowd out there wants us to play it. The problem is, we made that tune two years ago, so the sound is dated. In addition, we go all over the place in our set, from fidget to dubstep to del house to hard electro, and we needed a good track to bridge a gap. The new mix goes from 128bpm to 140bpm on the second drop, so it really works well with the crowd.
Shit yeah I bet that works with the crowd. A bass explosion like that over an old dance-floor favorite? And that fuggin bit crushed ass YARp sound?!?!?!!!! Solid revision for sure, I will be looking to hear that in my favorite indie dance bar real soon.
The next banger features a sample I recognized from an old Dipset beat, and some heavy bass.
