A Welsh company named LOMOX Ltd. has been working on creating OLED Wallpaper that could very well eliminate standard lighting. LOMOX Ltd”s organic light emitting diode technology (OLED), will be able to provide lighting solutions to homes, businesses and even roadways. The light is provided by chemicals that are applied on a surface to which are capable of emitting a natural looking light and only require between three to five volts to run, making it more then twice as efficient than current energy saving light bulbs.
””This is a chemical that in a flat panel display screen you can put it in the device and it emits light. You can put it anywhere, even paint it on a wall or wallpaper.””
-Ken Lacey, Chief Executive of LOMOX Ltd
Due to its flexibility, OLED”s have potential for numerous applications; televisions, computers, mobile phones, walls and even road signs. This ground breaking technology could also be used to make flexible screens that could be rolled up after use, and would also provide an effective alternative to outside lighting with traditional lights. Another benefit is that all of these applications can also be powered by greener alternatives such as solar energy. LOMOX Ltd. hopes to roll out the first applications for outdoor signage and displays as early as 2012.
