Lazer Bass: Crunk to the Future
“Call it lazer bass, future blap, turbo crunk, or “Pikachu’s cunt,” but beware of a new electronic hip-hop hybrid about to detonate a dancefloor near you.”
So I read this article about a new dance/club genre popping up in a few places, most notably Montreal and Toronto. It doesn’t really have an official name, but it’s basically like super glitched out mega bass remixes that we’re all kinda familiar with. But some of the shit is just off the deep end and I have a hard time believing people can dance to it. The dude above does a pretty ill job popping to Lazer Sword’s “Gucci Sweatshirt”- he can hang out with us anytime.
You can read the article here.

Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down.
This little man started talking all this shit and got put in his place. In the video its not stated how old each kid is, but they obviously close enough in age that the little kid felt comfortable talking shit and that they skate together. This also raises the question…”How many 12 year olds (both sides unarmed) do you think you could take on?” I’d say I could whoop on around 5. Thoughts?

Cool Guys Always Finish First

My buddy Jameel over at Eighty81 put a lot of hard work an official mixtape entitled “Cool Guys Always Finish First”. They enlisted the help of Don Cannon and themed it around everyone’s favorite cool guys, like James Dean, Fonzie, The Fresh Prince, and Dwayne Wayne. Kids: Forgive the fact that Keyel isn’t included on the mix, and Download it here. Support the local music scene.

Them Keyel Kids!
Yo Yo Yo, Check it out! So I have the pleasure of introducing you readers to a music group who goes by the name of Keyel, they are what you would call an Underground Hip Hop group. Members consist of rappers/producers Pease, Holy, Prose and Turntablist DJ Eso. Keyel’s music has smooth and soulful feel but will always have your head rockin’ to with their knockin’ beats and dynamic rhymes. They all grew up and still reside in the city of Cleveland, Oh. I’ve also had the pleasure of sitting down with Keyel and asking them a few questions. Check out the interview and after that peep their Myspace, Blog, and also the Terry Urban/Mick Boogie Mixtape they just recently featured on!

Rod: So tell me where it all began?
Holy: Initially Peace and Prose were in the group with another member, he left the group and that’s when I joined. It actually all happened at a pep rally but that’s another story.
Prose: We met DJ Eso later on down the line. We all were at this Slum Village Show. We saw him wilding to “Raise It Up”! The rest is history.
Rod: How long has Keyel been writing rhymes?
Holy: For me since like junior high.
Paul: Since 5th grade, I remember winning this rap contest that year.
Prose: 13 years old
Eso: I’m the DJ!
Rod: Where did the name Keyel originate from?
Peace: originally it was my rap alias, but we eventually gave the name to the group entirely. Keyel is shortened from Key Elements, as in the Key Elements of hip hop.
Rod: Break, Graf, MC’n, DJ’n. Correct?
Peace: Yes!
Rod: Who were some of your biggest inspirations in the beginning?
Keyel: Canibus and Talib
Rod: Who are some of your of biggest inspirations currently?
Peace: Common, Elzhi, J Dilla and Blu
Prose: Common, J Dilla, and SV
Holy: Dilla, Common, Mos Def, and Nas
Rod: Describe your music making process.
Keyel: Simple make a beat, then write to it.
Rod: What are some concepts you use in your songs?
Peace: Things that are going on in my life mainly.
Prose: Ladies, how ever the beat makes me feel and life of course.
Holy: Usually whatever’s going on in the world.
Rod: What advice would you give to up and coming artist in the Cleveland area?
Eso: Don’t EVER get on a show wit us. EVER!
Peace: Yeah! And always stay genuine.
Holy: Be true to yourself. Make Music you want to make!
Prose: Do you, don’t break or compromise for no anyone.
